"Welcome Evening" - Relax at home in front of an open turf fire - inhaling the aroma of peat scented air - watching a video - "An Irish Wedding" or "A Day in the Bog".

Day One

After breakfast, spend the morning exploring the town of Ballinrobe and tracing your roots. Discover the history of your family in Mayo - you can take this exciting journey back in time and uncover your Mayo family history details. Your enquiries will be dealt with by an expert genealogist who have access to the most extensive range of source material available on Mayo ancestry.

Then visit Cong - see all the sites - Ashford Castle, the Quiet Man Heritage Centre etc.

Unwind with dinner in the evening - Traditional Irish Stew.

Day Two

Scenic drive to Westport - a planned town of the Georgian period. Westport is a must for visitors of all ages - a unique blend of old and new reminders of a bygone era, mingling happily with the lively busy town of today.

In the evening, go for a drive - the Lough Mask drive to Tourmakeady - it is a rural district situated between Lough Mask and the Partry Mountains - a traditional Irish speaking area.

Finish off the evening with traditional bacon and cabbage. Then take a two minute stroll to "The Thatch Pub" where you can relax with a pint of Guinness or take a walk along a quiet country road - enjoying the scenery.

Day Three

Morning in Castlebar, the administrative capital of County Mayo, originally a market town. Castlebar has kept this tradition and is renowned for it's variety of interesting shopping areas. Spend the morning exploring the town with so much to see and do. Then you can really experience the past with a visit to Hennigan's Heritage Centre in Swinford. Here one can see how the Hennigan family survived on ten acres of poor land for over 200 years. Listen to the story of life and traditions in rural Ireland, of how people lived in frugal self-sufficient ways when work was hard and luxuries were few.

Then off to the Foxford Woollen Mills. The Foxford Woollen Mills Visitors Centre is a vibrant multimedia presentation tracing the foundation of the Foxford Woollen Mills over 100 years ago. Facilities here also include, Mill Shop, Olde Mill Restaurant, Foxford Jewellery and art galleries.

Day Four

Visit Newport - gateway to Achill Island. On the way to Achill Island, stretch your feet, stroll across the beautiful Mulranny Beach. Then on to Achill. It is Ireland's largest off-shore island and is joined to the mainland by a bridge at Achill Sound. Achill's steep hills rise from the sea as the island possesses some of the most amazing cliff faces in Europe.

Achill's wild mountains, undulating open moorland and dramatic cliff scenery is unequalled anywhere.This is a day of spectacular scenery. Unwind by candlelight dinner.

Day Five

Visit Ballintubber Abbey. This abbey has been in continuous use for almost 800 years. It is a heaven of peace, prayer and retreat.

In the afternoon visit Knock Shrine - a centre of pilgrimage for over 100 years.

All good things come to an end.

Farewell evening - after dinner, off to the pub for the craic and the Guinness.
